The US Mints 2026 revamped the original design, created by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, used on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coins issued from 1907 to 1933.
Lady Liberty is depicted at the center of the design, striding confidently forward while holding a torch of enlightenment in her right hand and an olive branch of peace in her left. Lady Liberty embodies the ideals of the Founding Fathers: freedom, unity, and progress.
The Capitol Building and the rising sun’s rays provide a beautiful background. The mintage year lies on the right face of the design, while the word “LIBERTY” arches on the outer rim above. The whole picture is encircled by six-pointed stars.
The reverse design, created by Jennie Norris for the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program, depicts a majestic bald eagle’s head with a powerful gaze, symbolizing America’s determination and constant gaze into the future.
Above the eagle’s head are the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”. Encircling the outer rim are the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “50 DOLLARS 1 OZ. FINE GOLD.”
