The 1/10 oz Gold Eagle has long been a popular option in the American Gold Eagle Series. While the 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins have never topped the sales charts in this series, the 1/10 oz gold coin dominated the collection through the mid-2000s. Today, it remains in high demand even as the 1 oz gold often tops the sales figures each year.
With the release of 2021 American Gold Eagle Type 2s, the US Mint delivers its long-awaited new reverse design. The change in the reverse was announced in October 2019 and a contest between several possible designs was held throughout 2020 as coinage committees considered the possible designs. Jennie Norris bald eagle design beat out more than 30 other possible designs.
