The 2026 Silver Eagle Design
The obverse features the beloved “Walking Liberty” design by Adolph A. Weinman, which was initially used on the Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947.
Lady Liberty walks with the sun rising in the background. She is gracefully enveloped in the American flag, carrying oak branches that symbolize the country’s desire for peace and a spirit of freedom and progress.
The design includes the inscription “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.
The reverse, designed by Emily Damstra, features a bald eagle soaring with an oak branch in its talons.
The inscriptions on this side include the country’s name “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the face value “ONE DOLLAR,” the weight “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Mintage and Specifications
The 2026 US Silver Eagle contains a full one troy oz of .999 fine silver, with a minimum amount of copper added for greater durability. It has a diameter of 40.6mm (1.598 in) and a reeded edge variation for proven authenticity and to reduce the risk of counterfeiting.
The American Eagle Series
The U.S. Mint introduced the American Eagle Silver Coin in 1986, along with its gold counterpart, the US Gold Eagle, marking the beginning of one of the most respected coin programs in the world.
Over time, it became a trustworthy symbol of quality and prestige. The series later expanded with the Platinum Eagle (1997) and Palladium Eagle (2017), offering collectors and investors a wider variety of options.
The American Silver Eagle is struck in several finishes, including a proof version produced at the West Point Mint in limited quantities. These proof coins receive exceptional care and presentation, making them highly sought after by collectors.
